Neck PainAccording to research and medical statistics, the large majority of people will experience moderate to severe neck discomfort at some point in their lives. Really, that should come as no surprise. That’s because the neck is prone to whiplash and injury more than any other body part. What it possesses in mobility and flexibility, it lacks in strength and protection.

Common Causes of Neck Pain

Neck pain can be brought on by any number of things. Here are a few common causes:

  • Lifestyle Choices. Neck pain is often caused by poor posture and violent physical activity. These are usually things that can be avoided, but are often hard habits to alter.
  • Accidents. Auto accidents are a major cause of neck pain. From sprains and strains to pinched nerves and herniated discs, the high force nature of auto accidents often lead to neck issues.
  • Sleep Habits. It’s no secret that sleeping on your stomach is bad on the neck. Unhealthy sleeping habits can often lead to neck strain and nerve pain.
  • Aging Process. Everyone has wear and tear types of changes in their neck.  These usually cause little or no symptoms, but sometimes can cause pain requiring medical treatment up to and including surgery.

If you experience frequent acute neck pain or chronic neck pain, it may be time to discuss possible treatment options with a medical specialist. In many cases, neck pain can be treated and alleviated.
